Tolerance calculator

Tolerance builds fast and clears over about two weeks. Here is where you are on that curve.

today1 week3 weeks

Repeated dosing over a few days digs the hole deeper and takes longer to climb out of.

partial5-HT2A recovery
72%

of a rested baseline

Partial tolerance, about 72% sensitivity.

You would need roughly 1.4× the material for the same effect. That is more nausea and more body load for the same headspace. Waiting 6 more days is the better trade.

Effectively reset at day 9.

Why the multiplier is not a plan. Psilocin acts at 5-HT2A, and 5-HT2A downregulates fast. What comes back with more material is the body load, the nausea, the racing heart, the long uncomfortable plateau. The psychedelic effect does not scale back up with it. This is one of the few drugs where the tolerance curve genuinely means “wait” rather than “take more”.
Where the curve comes from. Exponential recovery with a 3.5-day time constant and 65% depth, fitted to two anchors that are well attested: roughly half the effect at 24 hours, and no noticeable deficit at a fortnight. It is a model, not a measurement of you.

The mechanism

Psilocin produces its effects by binding the 5-HT2A receptor. Like most receptors under sustained agonism, 5-HT2A responds by reducing its own availability at the cell surface. Fewer available receptors means less effect from the same amount of drug, and the adaptation happens within a day.

Recovery is on the order of days to a fortnight rather than hours. Two anchors are well attested: a dose taken the day after a full one produces roughly half the effect, and after about two weeks people stop noticing any deficit. The curve here is an exponential fitted to those two points, with a 3.5-day time constant.

Tolerance is also cross-tolerant with LSD, mescaline and DMT, because they act at the same receptor. Taking LSD three days after mushrooms lands on the same downregulated receptors.

The part worth internalising: what returns when you take more material is the body load. Nausea, a racing heart, an uncomfortable plateau. The psychedelic effect does not scale back up alongside it, because the receptors it needs are not there. This is one of the few drugs where the sensible reading of the tolerance curve is simply to wait.
