Medication interaction checker

Check a prescription drug against psilocybin. Lithium and MAOIs are the ones that can genuinely hurt you; SSRIs mostly just flatten the experience.

If it is not listed. Most drugs have never been formally tested with psilocybin, so a blank here means unstudied rather than safe. Anything serotonergic, anything that lowers the seizure threshold, and most psychiatric medication is worth asking a pharmacist about. They will answer the pharmacology question without needing to know why you want to know.

How severity is graded

“Will flatten your trip” and “will hurt you” are different things. An SSRI blunts the experience; lithium is linked to seizures. They're graded separately so the real warnings still stand out.

DangerousDocumented serious harm. Do not combine.3
CautionA real mechanism for harm exists.11
IntensifiesStronger than you planned for.1
Reduces effectsBlunts or blocks the experience. Watch the redosing trap.6
Low riskNo mechanism and no signal.2

About serotonin syndrome

The SSRI-plus-mushrooms warning is overblown. Serotonin syndrome comes from too much serotonin in the synapse, the kind of thing MDMA plus an MAOI does. Psilocin doesn't work that way: it sits on the 5-HT2A receptor rather than flooding the cleft. Huge numbers of people take mushrooms on an SSRI, and serotonin syndrome is rarely reported.

The actual risk is duller. The SSRI flattens the trip, you assume the dose was weak, you take more, and the second dose lands while the first is still coming up. That's the mistake to plan around.

The one with real evidence behind it is lithium, where roughly half of self-reported combinations involved a seizure or medical emergency. Nothing else in the psychiatric list comes close.
