Are magic mushrooms legal in Thailand?
IllegalNo. Psilocybin mushrooms are illegal in Thailand, and possession is a criminal offence.
Psilocybe cubensis and related Psilocybe species producing psilocybin or psilocin are Category 5 narcotics under the Narcotics Code and a 2022 Ministry of Public Health notification. Unlicensed possession, sale or production carries up to 5 years and THB 500,000, and use up to 1 year or THB 20,000. Since July 2025 a ministerial regulation lets the Thai FDA license magic mushrooms for medical treatment and research, but there is no recreational route, despite informal sales in tourist areas.
